In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
This Scene release is a pretty good compromise between size and quality.
The movie itself has been mis-promoted as being a sci-fi mystery. It's actually a 1980s style coming-of-age movie. Set in 1979, the story follows a bunch of adolescent kids who are making a 8mm zombie movie for a film competition when events take an unexpected turn.
The chief characters are nauseating and unconvincing with the notable exception of Elle Fanning as 'Alice' who frankly acts everyone else off the screen.
The film does have its good points though. The special-effects are very well done and there are enough unexpected frights to justify a Halloween party night rental viewing.
