under 4gig fit on a usb stick and can stream play via PS3 but some more and more are >4gig. What's the latest ticket for these.
A fat 32 usb stick will only copy over each file under 4 gig.
Thanks

You have 2 options, format stick to NTFS (turn off optimIze for quick removal) and use a different media player, or split the file using one of many programs that are out there into >4gb segments

Can't PS3 and 360 users also stream directly from the PC over the network? The only thing is, I think you'll run into that Cinavia bullshit on PS3... You could always cheat like I do and connect the PC to the TV :D

I watch movies directly on the PC monitor. For a friend though I convert mkv files to avchd and burn them to blank disc so he can watch them on his PS3.

Splitting the files is the cheapest way and buying a media player the easiest.

Splitting seems like the easiest option.
Using a usb on the PS3 works great. If I get teh cinavia nag. I use a sharp BD player that plays xvid from usb. First choice usually is to use the PS3.

I will try splitting.
Thanks all!!!

We use ps3 media server to stream to a wired ps3. As for the TV, I use a boxee box.

Since I have limited hard disk space, and it can sometimes take me a long time to get around to watching a download, I tend to burn stuff off onto optical media (use the UDF file system for files >4GB, ImgBurn will tell you this anyway). Then watch from a laptop hooked up to the TV.

Since the laptop died I've had to run a cable from the main PC to the TV.

I use WDTV Live streaming box, cost me £65 from amazon iirc, plays every file i have had my hands on so far,
connects to my router via wireless, has a nice remote control, and looks pretty decent too, can stream directly from PC which works great, or plug in a storage device or 2 into both of its usb slots.

The only negative i have to say about it is maybe its too slow at booting up, apart from that i think its great.

A few months to a year ago those types of media boxes were the bees knees but recently they're getting surpassed by some ridiculously cheap open setups - such as the Rasberry Pi running Raspbmc. £40 and you have a fully open-sourced XBMC media player, it's nuts.

Perhaps I need to do some tweaking but my Raspberry Pi turned up and it's soooo slow running Raspbmc. Not just the GUI but video playback is choppy as well when the WDTV is fine over the same network. I'm going to switch over to OpenElec to see what that's like.

You could also put the storage partition on a usb stick to speed up xbmc.
