Although we hope to provide a similar function directly via the site at some point in the future (if we can do it without the server exploding and you kind folks buy some damned headphones off of us so we can afford it) one of our members, NikJosuf, has provided instructions on how to use our RSS feeds in combination with IFTTT.com to:
So if you want to have a fully customisable release notification system, why not pop along to this thread - and while you're at it, take a look at the rest of the forum... Some of it is actually useful AND safe-for-work :) 2013-01-02 15:19:22
New year, new features! Our resident code ejaculators have been fapping again and this time have given the site a well deserved facial. Let me take a moment of your time to go through the creamy goodness!Custom Search Engine "QSearch"In a time when search engines, indexing sites and databases come and go we've decided to get funky with VCDQ and add a feature that allows you to ADD YOUR OWN SEARCH ENGINES to VCDQ and search them directly from the site. This means that you can use VCDQ for all of the latest release information but should you wish to search for it elsewhere for whatever reason, you can launch that search directly from VCDQ."But I don't want VCDQ knowing what sites I visit!!" ... That's ok, we don't (and we wouldn't care if we did :)). Whatever sites you add are stored locally in a cookie and NOT uploaded to VCDQ "ok, so how do I use this beast of a feature?" ... simple, go into a release and click the "+" in the QSearch section and add the search engine details. QSearch works by injecting the release name into the search string using the text "{RLS}" in the search string. For example, Google would be "http://www.google.com/search?q={RLS}" Not All websites support this but the vast majority do. We've tested it with multiple websites and generally speaking it works fine, including those that require a login. Just remember to insert the {RLS} text where whe search string would normally go. Improved Database SearchThe site search engine should be pretty damned special now. It supports expressions such as:operator OR: hello | world operator NOT: hello -worldhello !world phrase search operator: "hello world" field-start modifier: ^hello It also supports title, group name and iMDB id matching. Quick Preview ButtonIf you want to have a quick glance at a releases info, there is now a quick preview button. Just click the Magnifying Glass.Forums From HellWant your self confidence undermining? P2P Updaters NeededDo you have access to P2P releases (mainly movies but anything else so long as it's not crud)? Do you want to give something back to the community and contribute to VCDQ? We wont be asking you to do anything illegal - all we need is the nfo and sample (if available) and the titles folder name. We can also take manual or FTP submissions. If you have the time and you want to help out, PM one of the staff via the forum or drop into our IRC channel.Scene Updaters NeededWhile we're on the topic of updates. We're on the lookout for updaters of all shapes and sizes. If you have access to an FTP, pre database/chan and want to contribute, please get in touch. We're Fixing StuffThe filtering system should be working again. Just a word on some recent site changes:
You might have noticed that the colour scheme has been reset on the site. This is due to some changes that have been made to the homepage. You can use the Colour Picker at the top-right to select one of the pre-defined themes or create your own. To get VCDQ back to how you like it. The date field has also returned! That was never intentional, it went "awol" during a code update. The search is fixed and sexy! Go on, try it... See? Basic usage is: "dog" - would search for anything with the word "dog" anywhere in the title "^dog" - would search for anything BEGINNING with "dog" "dog | cat" - would search for anything containing "dog" OR "cat" It also supports IMDB title ID matching now so if a movie is foreign or released with different names in different regions and you can't find it on VCDQ - just drop the IMDB title ID into the search (the "tt1234567" value in IMDB addresses) and VOILA! There's other code updates going off in the upcoming days and weeks so if you get any quirks when you visit the site, press CTRL+F5 and try again. If you're still having problems, drop by the forum or IRC channel and we'll see what we can do :) 2012-08-01 08:47:28
Thanks to our new programmer, AVDHulst (more info coming), we fixed our search! For those interested; the problem lay in our Sphinx Configuration and our search query. Quite simply the sphinx configuration did not weight the entries properly and the search query would cut off the proper search results because of the LIMIT + year filter. The proper search results would lie outside of the LIMIT and the search results returned would not have the proper year to show up. This is why releases with general naming would often fail, searching on general words such as "ice", "for", "over" etc. This has all now been fixed and you can enjoy a working search again! Thanks AVDHulst! 2012-05-03 13:30:49
VCDQ is looking for a programmer from our community, to help develop and improve the site. It's time to spice up the site and implement some of the new features we have in mind. There's plenty of room for own ideas and improvements once you're on the team! We're looking for somebody that knows/learns on the job:
We use SVN as our Source Control System, so we can get you up and running quickly! You would work with the team and be able to affect the roadmap of VCDQ. A real fun challenge for somebody that likes to code, be creative and make a difference. Your work would be appriciated by hundreds of thousands of visitors and earn you a spot on the Staff page, Forum priviligies and eternal gratitude from everyone that visits the site. If you are interested use our contact page to get in touch with us! 2012-02-29 18:26:35
Well, it's been a while since we last posted some news up here but now seems like a good time as some things have changed on the site and there's been a recent change to Scene rules. No Dodgy Downloads! We're forever harassed by lawyers and DMCA retards who think we're a Torrent site or similar. WE ARE A LEGAL NEWS SITE. As always at VCDQ, we can not and will not ever allow linking to warez or warez searching on the site. We're here for information only. Some Cuntburger has already had our Twitter feed shut down for totally bogus reasons, and you try getting any of the dipshits at Twitter to listen. We gave in, it's like pulling teeth from the jaws of a drooling retard. We'd create another but no doubt the same would happen again so it's Facebook and RSS if you want an external feed from the site for the time being. So, if you're wondering where all of the file host, Torrent and NZB links are on the site, you'll be wondering for a long time. Actually this also goes for people dropping into the IRC channel as well, you can't get hints or tips on where/how to download there either, but you can get the same level of high-brow intellectual debate that's omnipresent in the forum (speaking of the forum, you really should drop by and say hello. Sure there's a clique of long standing members just desperate to haze the fuck out of the newbies but if you survive that, it's a lovely, warm, inviting place - just like a vagina). Easier CommentingAlthough we're still looking to implement a rating/thumbs-up system for people leaving comments, we've fixed what was probably the biggest bugbear: THE CAPTCHA! If you're logged into VCDQ there is no longer a requirement to leave a rating OR complete the CAPTCHA. For guests this is still enforced but for members wanting a heated debate n the merits of the latest and greatest movie releases can have one without the site making it a pain in the ass. As time goes by we hope to expand upon the commenting system and introduce some saucy new features but in the meantime please feel free to comment, review and ask questions - So long as you're not asking any of the obvious "banned" questions ;)Standard Definition x264 TV ReleasesOver the last few days you may have noticed a slight decline in the number of XVID TV releases. This is due to a recent change in Scene rules which now allows (and recommends) SD TV releases to be encoded in x264 and in an MP4 (not MKV) container. We fully support this change, it improves quality whilst keeping file sizes down as an SD x264 encode shouldn't be significantly different in file size when compared to SD XVID.Updaters WantedWe're always looking for people that can help the VCDQ cause. If you're a member of a release group (be it Scene or P2P) or have access to a Pre site, come and talk to us. WE WILL NEVER ASK YOU TO DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL, WE ONLY REQUIRE NFO FILES AND SAMPLES.... And FinallyWatch this space. It hopefully wont be 12 months before the next blog and/or site update - We just need to think of something interesting (or controversial) to say :)2011-06-05 23:19:48
It's been a while since our last update notice so we thought it was a good time to mention some of the new features. Highlight some of the old ones and generally let you folks know that VCDQ is still evolving. The Low-downOver the coming months we've got some amazing new additions to roll out, including a new blog by a name that will be familiar to many of you (watch this space!) and a cash bounty for our best reviewers. You may have already noticed the +/- buttons next to comments but now they actually "do" something. We're still working on this as it's a massive addition to the site but we will award our best reviewers with either a cash prize or if they want to remain anonymous they can opt to nominate a charity instead. So get reviewing now and build-up a rating... More news on this soon. "What about now?" I'm sure at least one of you is asking. Simple, we've hopefully fixed the god damn search bug that has been the bane of our Code-Ninjas life for some time. Improved the Facebook integration (click the "like" button in a release's information page). Added more streaming samples and much, much more. Improved FiltersFirst of all the site now defaults to movies, in xvid format, from 2011 only. If you want to see the full release lists, click the "DEFAULT FILTER | ALL RELEASES | ALL MOVIES | TV-SHOWS | PC | PS3 | 360 | WII" links at the top of the site. Clicking "Home" will also return you to the default view unless you have customised your view, in which case you'll be returned to that. Want to get rid of your custom view? Click "DEFAULT FILTER". We've also tidied up the code presenting the tables a little. You probably won't notice the changes but they are there :) Steaming TurdsAnother (slightly controversial) feature we've decided to add is an option to locally "nuke" P2P releases that are messed-up. There's currently no quality control for the P2P scene like there is for the regular Scene and we felt we were letting people down by not alerting them to releases that we're fundamentally broken. With that in mind we've added the "turd" icon to compliment the Scene Nuke icon... If you see a steaming turd next to a release name you can be rest assured it's a show-stopper of a fuck up and you should avoid the release. Turds will not be awarded often and when they are it's just our opinion but we have been doing this for 10 years now. We won't "turd" a release just for being bad or even the 10th dupe of the same source (even though we hate it), we'll turd it for being fundamentally broken in some way; no subs for foreign parts, audio sync is messed up, the end of the film is missing... Stuff YOU need to know. In other words, BEWARE THE TURD! Anti-social NetworkingWe're now posting some releases and other forms of wisdom to our Twitter and Facebook pages. You can also add release information directly to your Facebook page if you want to share release information with your friends. Chat RoomWe also wanted to be able to "reach out and touch" some of our visitors. Not in a way that gets us arrested, but by adding a web portal into our Fort Knox like IRC chat channel. Ok, it's not like Fort Knox but it was a pain in the ass to get to. Now you can simply click on the "Chat Room" link at the top of the page for a pop-out Window that will take your preferred nickname (we recommend your forum nick) and join our IRC channel without having to know about IRC, SSL, ports and all that funk. Forum from HellOf course, if a live chat with a bunch of reprobates isn't your bag you can chat in our forum with the same reprobates but at a slower, more leisurely pace. We've even added Tapatalk support so you can chat on the go... Even on the toilet (please don't use Tapatalk to upload pictures of your "efforts" though). Here you can chat about pretty much anything you want. We have General Discussion, Computers and Gadgets, Movies and TV, Art, Games, Gambling and Sport and the weirdest corner of the known universe, The Twink Prison... Be warned though, the forum is strictly for adults and some things once seen, can never been unseen. Flaming is allowed if it's creative and funny and within reason you can discuss prety much anything you want, just keep it legal (and read the rules!). There's a whole host of members waiting to tear you to pieces if you're an idiot though, you have been warned. Feedback and Contributing to the SiteSo we hope you enjoy the new features and if not don't forget to drop by the forum or IRC channel to tell us ;-) Also, if you can help contribute to the site, we're always looking out for updater's, release groups and other sources of release information (Scene or P2P) - can you hook us up? Maybe you've written an App that uses VCDQ, or a browser extension, or a Greasemonkey script or something so amazing and radical we'll punch ourselves in excitement? Drop by, let us know, maybe we can get it out there to a few more users. Finally...Remember we're a LEGAL, INFORMATION-ONLY site. We DO NOT provide links to copyrighted material and you MUST NOT post links to copyrighted material or discuss where to obtain releases listed on this site. We don't provide download links, Torrents, Newsgroups or anything of that kind so please don't ask... Unless you're a hot chick with low self esteem, in which case get in touch! 2011-03-25 21:22:04
We've made a few changes to the site (a full announcement will be made soon but you may have spotted one or two new doohickeys appearing already), if you're having issues with VCDQ please clear your cache and cookies and if the site continues to give you grief, let us know your OS/version, Browser/version, URL giving you the problem and any error messages... Thanks!

Hello again! You've no doubt clicked on this Blog entry to find out why VCDQ looks different... Again!Since our relaunch several months ago we've tried to address many of the criticisms directed at the redesign, mainly the things we struggled to get working such as a full search, release highlighting and a submission and commenting system that is easy to use. It was the result of a rushed development because the old site was fundamentally broken, we had no choice and hoped the compromises we made wouldn't come and bite us on the ass, we were wrong. It quickly became apparent that running the system we were and trying to build on top of that was going to progressively make the site less stable, slower and ultimately drive the staff and users crazy. So instead, the decision was made some time ago to move VCDQ back to a nice, bespoke system that we can build on... Which is what we've been doing for the last couple of months. Why change now? The new site being ready has coincided nicely with us changing host in an effort to reduce costs - so this time it's planned, sorta :-) PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR THE NEXT DAY-OR-TWO THE NEW SITE WONT BE RUNNING AT FULL SPEED AS IT'S RE-PARSING THE DATABASE TO PICKUP NEW TAGS/FEATURES. AS SUCH, THE SITE MY CHUG A LITTLE AT TIMES AND NOT *ALL* RELEASES WILL BE AVAILABLE AT FIRST. THE IMPORT PROCESS SHOULD COMPLETE IN A DAY OR TWO. WHAT'S NEW?Nothing too dramatic, we're still VCDQ, it's mostly a re-design. Be we have a few new tricks up our collective sleeves... Including, streaming samples! That's right, not only can you get a delicious trailer for many releases on here but from now on we hope to bring you samples of the release where possible as well... Now you have no excuse for rating a release based on screen-shots alone (a crime tantamount to murder on these here forums!) Also, gone are the category selectors across the top, now you can select your own filters from the drop-down boxes. Genre and year filters are now included. Search filters should now fully work, there's also a group filter. Commenting can be done anonymously (if you want) there's no need to create threads - just type your comment, give a rating and off you go. That's not all though!
WHAT'S TO COME?
DONATIONS - THANK YOU ALL!We'd also like to thank each and every one of you who have donated over the last couple of months. You have, quite literally, kept us afloat while we scrabbled around in the background to ensure the survival of VCDQ - and so far it's worked! You may have noticed a few ads on the site, hopefully they're not too intrusive but please feel free to feed back any comments you have on the redesign, but it's either have a few adverts on the site or try and survive solely on donations for the future - which we don't believe is possible. Having said that, donations to the site are still much appreciated, if you like VCDQ and like what we represent, vote with your wallet (even if it's just enough to buy the staff a beer - we're all volunteers) THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ FOLKS. HOPEFULLY YOU'LL ENJOY THE NEW RE-RE-DESIGN... AND IF NOT, WE'RE SURE YOU'LL LET US KNOW :-) |
